Building a stronger Nepal

Despite it being more than four years since the devastating 2015 earthquakes and two years since the 2017 floods, thousands of Nepalese families are still living without safe and stable shelter.

Home's end goal is to eradicate homelessness globally and Habitat's, is to ensure that everyone has a decent place to live. Together, we have made huge strides in our journey to ensure families in Nepal have the knowledge, training and resources they need to build stronger homes, and a stronger future. While our partnership with Habitat has allowed us to have an incredible impact in Nepal, there are still thousands of vulnerable families out of our reach. With your help, we can work to ensure all Nepalese families have a helping hand.

Kala is one example of the many families who has received a home through Habitat for Humanity's work.

The housing need in Nepal spans long before the 2015 and 2017 disasters. 1 in 4 persons live below the national poverty line, with 49% of the population living in substandard housing. The assistance HFH provide is about more than building homes - it is about ensuring families have the training, knowledge and resources they need to foster self reliance and resilience, especially in the face of future disaster.

Habitat for Humanity and Home have made a long term commitment to provide both housing and ongoing support and training to Nepalese communities, and we were proud sponsors of the recent Habitat for Humanity solidarity dinner and charity auction for Nepal (held in Christchurch earlier this week). The night was a wonderful time of celebration and we were especially pleased to be joined by some members of the local Nepali community.

Over the course of the night, we were able to raise almost $40,000 through the night's various auctions - enough to fund 13 homes in Nepal! Home is proud to contribute to the great work HFH is doing in rebuilding a stronger Nepal, and in the coming year expect to be able to fund a further 200 homes through our home-for-a-home programme.

Habitat for Humanity is grateful to their supporters and partners who give generously. The more funds we raise, the more families we can help.

Habitat for Humanity is in Nepal, ready to respond. Join with us and donate today to help the efforts.
